The topic of our second IMBES Ask-Me-Anything session of 2020 will be online data collection with children. There has been growing interest in online data collection, which can allow researchers to quickly collect large amounts of data from a more diverse participant pool. With the outbreak of COVID-19, interest in online research platforms have accelerated greatly, and many formerly in-person studies are moving online. While online data collection can be very useful, the shift to online data collection comes with a unique set of challenges.
To help the IMBES researcher community overcome some of these challenges, we are excited to have as our guests several current and former members of The Child Lab at Yale, led by Dr. Frank Keil and Dr. Mark Sheskin. Joining us will be Dr. Mark Sheshkin, a Research Associate in the Child Lab and an Assistant Professor of Social Sciences at Minerva Schools at KGI, who developed an online research platform for conducting experiments with kids, Dr. Nicole Betz, a postdoc in The Child Lab, and Aaron Chuey, a former member of The Child Lab and current graduate student in Dr. Hyo Gweon's lab at Stanford. These guests have a great deal of experience running online studies with child participants and will share their experience and hands-on tips for conducting online data collection with children using video-chat.
This session will take place at 12pm EST on Wednesday, June 24th. Trainees are encouraged to attend and ask questions about online data collection. Questions for the guests can be submitted ahead of the session at the link here. For those who can't attend, we will be recording the conversation and will share it after the event.
