About Us

IMBS logoThe mission of the International Mind, Brain and Education Society (IMBES) is to facilitate cross-cultural collaboration in biology, education and the cognitive and developmental sciences. Science and practice will benefit from rich, bi-directional interaction. As research contributes to usable knowledge for education, practice can help to define promising research directions and contribute to the refinement of testable hypotheses.

Our objectives are:

  • To improve the state of knowledge in and dialogue between education, biology, and the developmental and cognitive sciences.
  • To create and develop resources for scientists, practitioners, public policy makers, and the public.
  • To create and identify useful information, research directions, and promising educational practices.

To accomplish these objectives, we:

  • Share ideas, critiques, insights, and issues through a journal and other publications.
  • Organize symposia, workshops, and conferences as forums to promote dialogue.
  • Promote collaboration between researchers and practitioners in neuroscience, genetics, cognitive science, and education.

The Society invites researchers and practitioners at all levels of education to explore the questions and proposed solutions that emerge at the intersection of mind, brain and education. We seek to create environments where ideas are welcomed and at the same time critically and rigorously examined. The Society’s principal goal is to foster dynamic relations between neuroscience, genetics, cognitive science, development, and education so that each field benefits from and influences work in the others, including questions asked, phenomena addressed, and methods employed.
